Our DIY Test Kit is a fast and cost effective method for anyone to test for the presence of asbestos within any material.

What is asbestos?

Asbestos has been classified as a known human carcinogen (a substance that causes cancer) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer. Asbestos is a set of six naturally occurring fibrous minerals that was once lauded for its versatility, heat resistance, tensile strength and insulating properties. Therefore, it was used in home and commercial construction for decades before 2004. It was commonly woven into fabric and mixed with cement.

Why test for asbestos?

Any construction built before 2004 potentially contains asbestos both within the original building or added during later alterations or refurbishments. Therefore, home renovation can expose you to the dangers of asbestos. In New South Wales alone, 70,000 houses were built using asbestos cement, that’s 52% of all houses!

Is DIY testing safe?

It is very difficult to identify the presence of asbestos by eye inspection. The only way to be certain is to have a sample of the material analysed by a NATA accredited laboratory. Our DIY Test Kit is safe and simple to use. The kit comes with every tool you need to protect yourself for safely taking samples of suspected asbestos materials, including:

  • Simple step-by-step guide
  • Disposable FFP flat fold face mask and gloves
  • Labelled grip lock polythene sample bags
  • Packaging to return samples for analysis

You will receive your NATA endorsed Certificate of Analysis in 72 hours.
